Eye Clinic

Kibuye Hope Hospital in rural Burundi serves as the primary teaching hospital for Hope Africa University’s medical school. The Kibuye Eye Clinic services patients from every province in Burundi as well as neighboring Eastern Congo and parts of Western Tanzania.

In addition to dispensing basic eye medications and glasses, the Kibuye Eye Clinic provides surgical care for many other eye problems like cataracts, glaucoma, trauma, strabismus, and tumors.

It is the only place in the country that offers specialty services like retina surgery, chemotherapy, and corneal transplants.

The eye clinic is now transitioning to being fully nationalized by mid 2021 with Burundi’s first and only retina surgeon, Dr. Jean Claude NIYONZIMA, leading the way. He is joined by our brilliant Ophthalmic Clinical Officer, Mr. Hervé Bikaya. Kibuye will continue to train scores of medical students, ophthalmic technicians, rotating ophthalmology residents and international global fellows.
