SURGICAL OUTREACH IN

NIGER

Global Eye Mission has partnered with Effective Ministries/LINK Missions and Vision Outreach International on surgical outreach projects in Niger, West Africa. LINK Missions is our in-country partner and has served the people of Niger for over 17 years. Niger is reported to have 7 ophthalmologists for its population of 21 million people and is ranked last of all nations in the world for access to eye care.  Niger is also one of the poorest countries in the world.  Given the limited access to eye care, there is great need in this country.

Currently there is no GEM-affiliated long-term eye care program in this region. Therefore, at this time the eye care work has focused on short-term eye projects and building relationships within Niger.  Our short-term teams have consisted of volunteers from across the globe including Gabon, Indonesia and the US. Due to the great demand for service, further development of eye care resources is needed in Niger.

Future: Global Eye Mission will continue to look for ways to collaborate with local and international partners to assist in the development of eye care delivery in this region.
